Bhalla rescinds new order on distribution of ration to migrants


Minister of Revenue Relief and Rehabilitation Raman Bhalla announced that the ration to migrant families will continue to be given as per old pattern.

The Minister who was speaking at a religious function held at Swami Anand Ji Ashram Purkhoo camp issued instructions to Relief authorities to revoke the new order issued recently in this regard. He said the ration coupon will be given for one year as per the administrative decision of 2006 and not for a period of three months as was decided by Relief authorities recently, he added.

The Minister also paid his tributes to great saint Swami Anand Ji and assured the members of the displaced community that coalition Government was alive to their problems and it has taken various steps for their redressal. He appealed the community to render full cooperation to the Government.

Mr Bhalla announced to look into the problems of the displaced community and to find out ways for their redressal, a meeting of the Apex Committee will soon be convened with Chief Minister. The meeting will also discuss the issue regarding enhancement of cash relief, he added.

He said the proposal for revision of the PM's package was before the State Cabinet and the decision on enhancement of Rs 7.5 lakh for construction of house to Rs 20 lakh, rehabilitation of orchardists, businessmen and industrialist would be recommended to Government of India for sanction.

Mr Bhalla assured the trustees of the Ashram that their demand for construction of rooms and other facilities would be considered. He also announced that the 3000 posts of state sponsorship under PM's package would also be advertised soon.

Former Chief Secretary and MLC Vijay Bakaya, Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner, R K Pandita, NC Minority Cell, Working president M K Yogi and Congress leader Chooni Lal Bhat were also present on the occasion.

Mr Bakaya, while paying tributes to Swami Ji lauded the community for preserving its identity despite odds. He said the community deserves all praises for constructing replicas of the gods, goddesses and sages and saints of Kashmir like Swami Anand Ji at Jammu and other places of the country.

He also complimented the coalition Government, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Raman Bhalla for taking various measures in mitigating the sufferings of displaced people.

Meanwhile Congress Migrant Cell chairman M L Kaul and its general secretary Hira Lal Pandita expressed their satisfaction over the announcement made by Raman Bhalla for continuing the issuance of ration coupons for one year saying otherwise the relief holders would have been put to many hardships.
