Police today claimed to have busted a militant hideout in Tanka Top area of Banihal and recovered huge quantity of arms and ammunitions.
During a joint search operation conducted by Police and 23 RR, police reports said that cops gathered specific information during the course of investigation of cases registered on the elimination of five militants in Harnyal and Danavi nallah by Ramban police in the year 2011, that slain ultras had concealed a consignment of arms and ammunition somewhere in Banihal area.
Since then the police was on manhunt to recover the concealed arms & ammunition. Today two teams of Police headed by Incharge Police Post Khari and Police Post Ahma, accompanied by 23 RR under the supervision of Anil Magotra, SP Ramban succeeded in effecting recovery of huge arms & ammunitions.
Police said that the recovery included three single barrel guns, one pistol folding Butt, 1386 AK rounds, 495 Pika rounds, four radio sets, seven UBGL grenades, six electric detonators, 7 meters cortex wire, two pistol magazines. The stores recovered from the hideout had the potential of causing large scale casualties and damage to property.
On this a case FIR number 40 of 2012 under section 120 B, 121 A RPC and 7/27 Arms Act was registered in Police Station Banihal.
Defence spokesman, however, said that a well concealed hideout was busted by a joint column of Rashtriya Rifles Battalion under the aegis of Counter Insurgency Force (Delta) and police. It is believed that the hideout belonged to HM militant Qari Zubair who was gunned down by security forces in February last year.
