Governor releases Brahm Vani


Governor N. N. Vohra, today released "Brahm Vani", a 6-monthly magazine, brought out by the Dogra Brahmin Pratinidhi Sabha, Jammu, at a function held at Raj Bhavan here today.

The Governor congratulated the Dogra Brahmin Pratinidhi Sabha for bringing out this publication and emphasized the high value of the journal containing essays on relevant subjects and issues, written in simple language, so that they are easily understood by the common readers.

He suggested that the focus of the write-ups in "Brahm Vani" could be topics relating to the revival and promotion of ethical and moral values among the youth as such writings, along with those on other relevant subjects, can make a significant contribution in promoting balanced personality development of the coming generation.

This publication in Sanskrit, Hindi and English throws light on the activities undertaken by the Sabha for the promotion of ethical values, eradication of social evils and the dissemination of the glorious socio-cultural heritage of the country for establishing a more healthy society.

Ved Parkash Sharma, President, Dogra Brahmin Pratinidhi Sabha, and other office bearers and members of the organization, thanked the Governor for releasing the journal.

The Governor also released "Duggar Sanskriti", a book in Dogri language written by Dr. Jitendra Udhampuri.

The Governor observed that with the availability of increased resources with the educational institutions and speedy advancement in technology there had been improvement in the preservation and re-publishing of classical works in various languages and different subjects. He added that the National Book Trust had also made an important contribution in this regard and observed that our libraries should be well stocked with books on every subject to cater to the requirements of readers with different interests.

Dr. Udhampuri, recipient of Padma Shri, Sahitya Akademi and several other awards and honours, has so far authored 25 books. "Duggar Sanskriti" focuses on the preservation of Dogri language, literature, folk art, traditions and customs for the benefit of the coming generations.

Among those present on the occasion were Dr. Satya Pal Srivatas, Dr. Lalit Gupta, Prof. Lalit Magotra, Prof. Veena Gupta, Prof. Ved Kumari Ghai, Dr. Virender Gupta and Shailender Singh.

Meanwhile, Mr Vohra released a book in Urdu language, titled "Insha Allah Azad Hind Ta-abad Rehay", written by Avtar Krishan Ganjoo Bharti Sehar Ganderbali.

This volume is based on a critical evaluation of the letters written by the late Union Education Minister, Moulana Abul Kalam Azad, and various other writers.

The Governor complimented Mr. Ganjoo for bringing out this well researched book and hoped that the author would continue to contribute towards the enrichment of Urdu literature.

HC Judges call on Governor

Justice Virender Singh and Justice Mansoor Ahmad Mir, Judges of the High Court, met N. N. Vohra, Governor, at Raj Bhavan here this evening.

During their meeting, the Governor and the Judges discussed issues relating to the highly beneficial services being rendered by the J&K High Court Legal Services Committee. They also discussed the broad agenda of the Conference on Mediation and Conciliation Activities being organized by the State High Court at Jammu on 17th March, 2012.

During their hour long meeting, the Governor and Mr. Duggal held wide-ranging discussions on various important issues relating to the internal security management. 

Also present in the meeting were R. V. Raju, former Director General, National Investigating Agency and ex-Director General, Vigilance, J&K, and Ravi Dhingra, former Chief Secretary, Himachal Pradesh. Both of them are Members of the Task Force on Internal Security.

Meanwhile, a deputation from Vijaypur area of Samba district called on Mr Vohra, and presented to him a memorandum of their demands.

The demands presented by the 11-member deputation led by Rani Billowria, former Deputy Mayor, Jammu Municipal Corporation, included, upgradation of road from Vijaypur to Nandpur and Vijaypur to Keso Barota, augmentation of drinking water and irrigation facilities, conducting afresh survey of BPL families, opening of more ration depots and shifting of fencing from the agricultural land to the Zero Line in the area.

The Governor gave a patient hearing to the deputation.

Governor Presented Presidents Police Medals

Investiture Ceremony held at Raj Bhawan

Governor N. N. Vohra, presented the President's Police Medals for Gallantry and Distinguished and Meritorious Services to 525 Police officers and men at an impressive Investiture Ceremony held at Raj Bhawan here this evening.

They included 49 President's Police Medals for Gallantry, 325 President's Medals for Gallantry, 12 President's Police Medals for Distinguished Services and 139 President's Medals for Meritorious Services. These Medals were awarded to J&K Police personnel during 2002-2010. Among the recipients of the Medals were the next of kin of the gallant Police officers and Jawans who had laid down their lives for safeguarding the security of the nation.

The Governor interacted with the recipients of the Medals and lauded their valor and devotion to the duty. The Governor made enquiries from the next of kin of the posthumous awardees regarding the difficulties, if any, faced by them.

Usha Vohra, First Lady, Omar Abdullah, Chief Minister, Tara Chand, Deputy Chief Minister, Mohammad Akbar Lone, Speaker, Legislative Assembly family members of the recipients of the Medals and next of kin of those brave police officers and men who were awarded these Medals posthumously were among those present at the Investiture Ceremony.

In his welcome address, Kuldeep Khoda, Director General of Police said that this Investiture Ceremony is being held after about 10 years at which 525 Police officers and men receive the President's Medals, including some by the next of kin of the gallant Police personnel who have been awarded these Medals posthumously.

The senior Police officers present at the Investiture Ceremony included Dr. Ram Lubhaya, Dr. S. P Vaid, D. R. Doley and Navin Aggarwal, Directors General of Police, P. L. Gupta, Vigilance Commissioner, former DGP CID, Dr. Ashok Bhan, Dr. Indu Koul Chairperson, Jammu and Kashmir Police Wives Welfare Association, and other senior serving and retired Police officers.

K. Rajendra Kumar, Additional Director General of Police, Armed/Law and Order, presented a vote of thanks.

Sadbhavna touring children meet Governor

A group of 20 students from the Bandipore district, back from their visit to various places of educational, historical and cultural importance in Delhi, Karnataka and Goa, met Governor N. N. Vohra, at Raj Bhawan here today and shared with him their experiences during this tour. The students were accompanied by one of their teachers and the Army officers who had been with them on the tour.

The 13-day educational tour was organized by the Army's 14 RR under the Sadbhavana Programme. The tour was flagged-off from Bandipore on February 21 and will conclude on March 4, 2012.

Interacting with the students, the Governor enquired from them about the places they had visited and what they had liked the most during the tour. All the students, who are studying in classes 9th to 12th, said that it was an excellent opportunity for them to have visited various places of historical and cultural interest in Delhi, Karnataka and Goa.

The students said that in Delhi, they had visited India Gate, Qutub Minar, Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah and shopping malls, while during their halt at Belgaum in Karnataka, they visited CDO and Military Schools, besides visiting other places of educational interest. In Goa, they had visited the famous sea beach at Panaji, Wildlife Sanctuary at Bondla and other places of cultural interest. At Jammu, they had visited Bagh-i-Bahu, Amar Mahal Museum and other places of historical interest.

The Governor asked Maj. Manish Negi, who had accompanied the students during the tour, to provide each student with a photo album which would contain brief write-ups on the various places and monuments they had visited, to broaden their knowledge. The Governor observed that during future visits the students should be provided the opportunity of visiting Navy or Coast Guard ships and being shown aircrafts of different categories at an IAF base, if located in the station visited by them.

He also asked Maj. Negi to organize an Essay Writing competition for these students, based on their experience of the visit, and agreed to give prizes to the first three students whose essays would be adjudged best. He suggested that the 14 RR should bring out a publication about this Sadbhavana Tour which would also contain the best three adjudged essays in it, for the benefit of other children.

The Governor presented gifts to the students and wished them a bright future ahead.

A memento was presented to the Governor by the children on behalf of 14 RR as a memorabilia on the occasion.

Navin Kumar Choudhary, Principal Secretary to the Governor, was present on the occasion.

Ensure no further exodus of KPs Governer

J&K Governor N N Vohra today said it is time to see what needs to be done to ensure that incidents like the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits during militancy does not recur.

Referring to the mass exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the Valley at the peak of militancy in 90’s, he said it was time for the community to go back in time and see why it happened.

"Go back in time and perhaps see why all these happened? Will it happen again and what is it we need to do to see such a huge exodus doesn’t happen again," Vohra said.

The Governor was addressing ‘Shuhul Taaph-III’ or Sweet Sunshine, a cultural gathering organised by Kashmiri Education, Culture and Science Society (KECSS) in Lalded Centre in South Delhi.

He said time is changing in India as well as in the neighbourhood. "The circumstance and the situation in the immediate neighbourhood inadvertently affects us," he said.

Commenting on the festival organised by the KECSS, he said youngsters have lost touch with their cultural moorings, language, families, soil. "Such exhibitions will help youth connect to the past," he said.

During the festival, the 150th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore was also celebrated with a discussion on the influence of Kashmir on the poet. 

Ashok Kaul, Professor of Sociology in Banaras Hindu University, spoke about the influence of Tagore’s affluent and intellectual background on his life and works.

"His life, practices and world at Shantiniketan was his analytical experimentation with revelations of knowledge, similar to Kashmiri Shaivism," Kaul said.

Finance Minister meets Governor ahead of budget session

Ahead of the budget session, Minister for Finance and Ladakh Affairs Abdul Rahim Rather today met Governor N N Vohra and discussed important issues relating to revenue and financial management.

Rather called on the Governor at Raj Bhavan here today and during a more than one hour wide-ranging meeting, they discussed important issues relating to taxation, revenue and financial management.

Rapid socio-economic development of the state and various aspects of Registration and Stamp Duty regulations were also discussed.

State Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) G R Sufi also called on the Governor at Raj Bhavan and briefed him about the progress of implementation of the J and K Right to Information Act for furthering the interests of good governance.

Sufi also briefed the Governor about the measures being taken by the Commission for enlarging awareness among the people about their rights under the Right to Information Act, 2009.

Governor CM greet people on Lohri


 Governor N. N. Vohra and Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah today extended warm greetings to the people on the auspicious occasions of Lohri and Makar Sankranti and prayed for their well-being and happiness.

In his message of greetings and good wishes, the Governor observed that the celebration of festivals, which are an important facet of our glorious pluralistic revive and re-invigorate the bonds of communal harmony, brotherhood, amity and secular ethos.

Wishing the people a Happy Lohri and Makar Sankranti, the Governor prayed for sustained peace, progress and prosperity in the State.

In his message on the eve of Lohri, Omar Abdullah expressed hope that the day will be harbinger of peace and development of the State

Governor pays tributes to Karbala martyrs

N. N. Vohra, Governor, has paid tributes to the sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and other martyrs of Karbala. In a message on the eve of Aashoor-e-Muharram, the Governor said that Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions sacrificed their lives for upholding the high values of truth, justice and righteousness. He said that their martyrdom reminds mankind of the high principles of human dignity and morality. He observed that the underlying message in the sacrifice of the Karbala martyrs is that one should not deviate from the path of righteousness, whatever be the price to be paid, adding that the path of truth and piety always prevails.The Governor prayed for peace, harmony and normalcy in the State.
