Jammu Udhampur Katra Rly line to be electrified

General Manager, Railway Electrification, Jagdev Kalia, these days said that Jammu-Udhampur-Katra Railway line are going to be electrified at intervals next 2 years and single line between Chakki Bank to Jammu by finish of current year.

Interacting with the media-persons at Railway Station here this morning once taking stock of the electrification comes, Mr Kalia said, "work on electrification of Chakki Bank to Jammu and Udhampur to Jammu railway lines goes on at the specified pace so Diesel Multiple Units (DMUs) are replaced by the electrical Multiple Units (EMUs) as early as possible".

Cycle expedition by 132 FAC Flt

132 FAC flight carried out a bicycle expedition from Udhampur to Reasi form 5th  to 7th  Mar 2012. The aim of this expedition was to inculcate a spirit of adventure and camaraderie amongst the air warriors of the unit. The cycle expedition was flagged off by Wing Commander S.S Kaila, Station Commander 39 Wg, AF on 5th Mar 2012. The route followed was Udhampur -Tikri- Katra- Reasi and back. The cyclists had a tough task of cycling on hilly roads and dirt roads and took eight hours to cover the distance. Ten cyclists from the unit had participated in the expedition which include three officers , six airmen and one NC(E). The expedition was led by Wing Commander Ajay Bhardwaj, Commanding Officer of 132 Flight. During the expedition the cyclists interacted with various army and para military formations enroute and also with civilian population. The cyclists spread awareness about the IAF amongst civilians by carrying out a lecture in schools and colleges in Reasi. The unit undertakes casualty evacuation of civilians in J and K sector and therefore this interaction with civilians will go along way in fostering spirit of cooperation and belongingness amongst all military, paramilitary and civilian population.

NPP MLAs Stage Walkout

Alleging discrimination with the Jammu region in the development of tourism sector, National Panthers Party (NPP) MLAs today staged walk-out from the Lower House.

"There is no equal distribution of funds for the development of tourist spots, promoting pilgrimage tourism and developing tourism villages", Legislature Party leader of NPP, Harshdev Singh, said during Question Hour.

He further said, "the places like Dudu-Basantgarh, Chountra Mata and Narsingh temple can be developed into good tourism spots. In 2004, under PMRP development of Pinger and Dalsar was announced but nothing was done on ground", adding "there is arbitrary allocation of funds in tourism sector and not on equitable note".

The NPP MLA sought to know from the Government whether these areas would be considered for creation of infrastructure in view of huge potential for attracting tourists.

As the Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Taj Mohi-ud-Din, who was replying to the supplementaries and main question of Vikar Rasool in the absence of Tourism Minister, Nawang Rigzin Jora, stated that no place of Udhampur district fall in the list of new tourist spots identified for the development, the NPP MLAs turned infuriated.

Harshdev Singh joined by party legislators—Balwant Singh Mankotia and Yash Pal Kundal left their respective seats in protest and started agitating against the Government.

"Udhampur district has always been ignored in the tourism sector", Mankotia said, adding "there is a pick and choose policy as a result of which locations having potential of being developed into good tourist spots remain unexplored".

After holding protest for sometime, the NPP MLAs staged walk-out from the House.

Golden Jubilee celebration at GDC Boys Udhampur

Minister for Higher Education Abdul Gani Malik today said that a significant policy for meritorious students is under consideration of the government which is aimed at providing all facilities for undergoing higher and professional education including research programmes.The policy will not allow the concerned students to join any kind of services till they complete their studies in all respects. The Minister was addressing a function, organized by Government Degree College, Udhampur (Boys) in connection with Golden Jubilee celebration of the College here today. Member Legislative Assembly, Udhampur Balwant Singh Mankotia was also present on the occasion.

Expressing satisfaction over the functioning of GDC Udhampur, Malik said that this college is a premier institution of the state, efficiently functioning under the dynamic principalship of Prof. Nutan Kumar Resutra and his dedicated team of faculty. Speaking high of teacher’s dignity and status in the society and their role in building the nation, Malik said that the teacher of present times has manifold responsibilities to ensure bright future to the students. He impressed upon teachers to review their abilities with refresher courses so as to face the challenges being posed by latest trends in technology and other subjects.


Earlier, the Minister accompanied by local MLA, Balwant Singh Mankotia, Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur, Baseer Ahmad Khan, ACR Udhampur Prof. Nutan and his faculty inaugurated Herbal Garden, Bird House, Cactus Corner, Green House and College  Surveillance System in the campus.Malik planted a sapling ‘Mognalia Grandiflo’ procured from Kashmir Valley while the MLA and Principal also planted saplings on the occasion. The Minister directed for renovation and repair of various dilapidated parts in the College. MLA urged upon the Minister to solve the problem of contractual lecturers. He said the system of submission of applications every year for appointment is extremely troublesome and the rule for one time submission should be approved for the convenience of candidates concerned. Later, Principal Prof. Nutan gave a power point presentation on the achievements of the college.The Minister released college Newsletter ‘Focus’ on various innovative steps prepared by IQAC of the college.


Malik also inaugurated a symposium on ‘Quality Initiatives in Teacher Education’ organized by Bhartiya College of Education, Udhampur during his one-day tour to the district. Chairperson of the College, Madhu Khajuria and Principal Sukham Chand, faculty members and large number of students attended the symposium. Several students participated in the symposium and received participation certificates from the Minister.

Power shut down on Sept 10

In order to carry out rectification of weak points and replacement of worn-out jumpers/droppers etc besides routine/preventive maintenance at the grid station, the shutdown of 132 KV switch yard of 220/132/33 KV Grid Station Udhampur would be affected on the September 10 from 0600 hours to 1200 hour.

The power supply to Udhampur, Army, Ramnagar,Chenani, Airforce, Kishtwar, Doda, Ramban, Thethar, Muller, Wanpoh, Chanderkote and Chenani shall remain affected during this time.

Release of GDC publication

During a visit to Government Degree College (GDC), Udhampur, Prof RNK Bamezai, Vice Chancellor, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) along with Prof Sham Lal Gupta, Director Colleges, Department of Higher Education, today released the "Institutional Calendar" of the college.

On the occasion, Principal of the College, Prof Nutan K Resutra along with teaching and non-teaching staff and PG students of the college were present.

Addressing the audience, Prof Bamezai stressed on the need to blend the traditional and the modern for the better performance and develop a model of approach based on Gandhian and Nehruvian models so that the local and the global are blended to face the challenges ahead.

Prof Sham Lal Gupta lauded the endeavours of the college for infrastructure enhancement and said that colleges play important role in producing the adequate human resource which is must for the sustenance of any economy.

Earlier, Prof Resutra presented the welcome address and outlined various initiatives to be taken during the current session.

On the occasion, Ashok Kumar, Joint Director, Department of Youth Services and Sports and Rajguru, Sportsperson were honoured for their immense contribution for the development of sports campus activities. Besides this NSS volunteers Kuljeet Singh, Pankaj Sharma, Shivani Bhat, Bhahishan Singh, and Kannav Sharma were also given prizes for their participation in a symposium held during NSS workshop.

Prof Sudhir Singh, Convener, IQAC, conducted the proceedings.
