Darbar move to Srinagar on April 29


Annual Darbar move offices would close here on April 28 and reopen in the summer capital of the state on May 7.

“The Civil Secretariat will close on April 28 followed by Darbar Move from Jammu to Srinagar from April 29 onwards,’ reliable sources said adding that the offices would reopen in Srinagar on May 7.

“During week-long process, files, documents and other assets would be shifted to the Srinagar,” they added.

The practice of darbar move was started by Maharaja Gulab Singh in 1872 to escape extreme weather conditions of Jammu during summer and harsh winters in Srinagar.

Over 5000 employees and trucks loaded of records were being shifted from Jammu to Srinagar and vice versa during Darbar move.

Nearly Rs 10 crore being spent every year for the shifting of offices.
