Governor reviews preparations for Amarnath yatra


Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra today reviewed preparations being made to ensure smooth and orderly movement of pilgrims during the forthcoming Amarnath yatra.

During a series of meetings held at the Raj Bhavan here, Vohra reviewed the status of each of the various works which are required to be executed for providing satisfactory arrangements for the forthcoming Yatra, an official spokesman said.

The Governor, who is also the Chairman of Amarnathji Shrine Board, met General Officer Commander (GOC) of Srinagar based 15 Corps Lt Gen S A Hasnain and GOC of Victor Force Maj Gen Gurdeep Singh to review the present ground situation with regard to the entire Yatra area, the spokesman said.

He said certain security coordination issues which will surface when the Yatra camps actually start functioning were also discussed.

The Governor at a separate meeting with Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Asgar Samoon and Inspector General of Police Kashmir Zone S M Sahai also reviewed the status of the preparatory arrangements for ensuring the smooth and orderly movement of the pilgrims to the cave shrine.

He was informed that the required infrastructure would be put in place before the Yatra commences, the spokesman said.
