Teacher held taking corruption


The State Vigilance Organisation (SVO) today arrested a Government teacher, working as an accountant in the office of Zonal Education Officer (ZEO) at Bhalessa in Doda district, red handed while demanding and accepting corruption of Rs 10,000 from an adhoc teacher for signing invoice bill of his Sixth Pay Commission arrears worth Rs 1.84 lakh.

Official sources said Manir Ahmad, a Government teacher, who was performing the duty of accountant in ZEO Bhalessa office, was demanding Rs 30,000 from adhoc teacher Dular Singh for signing his invoice bill. The deal was finally settled for Rs 10,000.

As soon as Dular Singh paid Rs 10,000 to Manir Ahmad, a Vigilance team apprehended the accused in the presence of a Magistrate and independent witnesses at his office at Bhalessa in Doda.

The amount of corruption was recovered from his possession, sources said, adding that a case has been registered against the accused for further investigations.
