Amid tight security arrangements, a sixth batch of 4,307 pilgrims today left from Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas Base Camp for Cave Shrine of Amarnath in south Kashmir.
With today's batch, as many as 19,618 pilgrims have left Jammu for their onward journey to the cave shrine. The yatra was yesterday resumed from Jammu after remaining suspended for two days due to inclement weather and heavy rush of pilgrims.
The batch of total 4,307 pilgrims comprising 2,808 males, 1,252 females, 46 children and 221 Sadhu left for Amarnath in a convoy of 121 vehicles this morning at around 5 AM.
Meanwhile, elaborate arrangements were put in place for Amarnath pilgrims in Udhampur by the district administration also. "Sufficient arrangements for the hassle-free yatra have been made under the overall supervision of Udhampur deputy commissioner," an official spokesperson said today.
A special control room at district level has also been set up in the Dak Banglow with assistant commissioner (revenue) as its nodal officer, besides additional control room for the convenience of the yatris have also been set up at police station Tikri and Chenani with respective Tehsildars as incharge, he said. To meet out any medical emergency, health department has been fully geared up to provide adequate medical facilities at Tikri, Rehmble, Udhampur, Chenani and Kud with ambulances at Tikri, Udhampur and Chenani. In view of any contingency, the administration has already identified different locations to accommodate as many as 5,000 pilgrims.
To ensure the quality and rates of eatables and other essential commodities during the yatra period, especially along the national highway, special checking squads of CA&PD, Legal Meteorology and Municipality are conducting regular checking of the markets to ensure that there is no overcharging by the shopkeepers.
