Inter Zone Sports Meet of Jammu Kashmir Police


DGP declares open Inter-Zone Sports Meet of J&K Police Armed zone makes great start in athletics 


Defending champion, Armed zone made a brilliant start with men and women athletes from the zone winning five gold out of seven different field and track events decided on the inaugural day of the Annual Inter-Zone Sports Meet of Jammu and Kashmir Police here today.
While constable Tirath Singh bagged gold in 10 kilometer race (walk), the four-member team from the zone bagged first position in Cross Country team championship. Women too contributed the Armed zone pride winning three gold medals in discuss throw, 400 meters and long jump events held at University of Jammu grounds. 

Earlier, the four-day long sports meet was declared open by Director General of Police (DGP), Kuldeep Khoda in a well attended colourful function held at Gulshan Ground, here in the evening. Soon after taking salute of the march past by participating contingents, the chief guest declared open the meet. In his address to the gathering, the DGP said that sports personnel from all wings of the police are participating in different individual and team events. He further said, "The event is organised with the aim to develop spirit of comradeship and discipline among the youth within the force. It is also to enhance sports abilities and also to identify the talented sports persons". 

Earlier, in his welcome address, Additional Director General of Police, Armed and Law and Order, K Rajendra Kumar presented a detailed report of the event. 

Athletes get just Rs20 per player 
Surprisingly, the management of the inter-zone sports meet, the Police Headquarters (PHQ) has released less than Rs 20 per day per player as refreshment for the strong contingent of the Armed Police. In a sensational disclosure this Correspondent was told that the PHQ has issued a grant of Rs 15,000 for over a contingent of 200 athletes of the Armed Police, which means just Rs 20 per day per player.
