Outplaying 121 battalion in a closely contested inaugural match, Group Centre Bantalab (GCBT) reached the next round of quarterfinals in handball in the four-day zonal level inter-battalion sports (handball and kabaddi) meet of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), organised by 151 Bn at Preet Nagar locality in the city outskirts, here today.
The neck to neck contest in the opening match entertained the crowd throughout the 50-minute game won by GCTB by a margin of two points. Though 121 Bn made a great start yet they could not maintain their lead in the second half which resulted into the loss 13-11. In all, 16 teams, representing as many battalions, are taking part in two disciplines of handball and kabaddi on knockout basis. These are GCBT, 6 Bn, 33 Bn, 38 Bn, 72 Bn, 74 Bn, 76 Bn, 84 Bn, 121 Bn, 126 Bn, 137 Bn, 151 Bn, 152 Bn, 160 Bn, 166 Bn and 183 Bn of the CRPF. Earlier, the competition was declared open by officiating Commanding Officer of the host 151 Bn, Pardeep Singh Kailey. Speaking to the participating teams he encouraged the players amidst caution of playing the game in true spirit of sports.
He was all praise for his jawans and the force as a whole for their commitment and contributions in maintaining law and order in insurgency effected states and those peaceful zones of the country. Among those senior officers present were Assistant Commandant of host 151 Bn, M R Mandal and Assistant Commandant of 33 Bn, Suresh Kumar
