YAIKS calls off 22nd day hunger strike

Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation Raman Bhalla accompanied by Minister of State for Revenue Nasir Aslam Wani today assured the Youth All India Kashmiri Samaj (YAIKS) that their all genuine issues under Prime Minister's package would be redressed on priority adding that Government is committed to provide all basic facilities to KPs in Kashmir valley like security and accommodation.

Mr. Bhalla said this while interacting with the YAIKS leadership who are on hunger strike since last 22 days for implementation of PM's employment pacakage and last years cabinet decision regarding 800 dereserved posts and 700 non-joining candidates.

In response to the assurance by the Minister, the protestors called off their 22 days long hunger strike, today evening.

The Minister said that Government is providing transit accommodation to nearly 1500 unemployed youth out of 3000 of KP community, who have been appointed and provided jobs in the valley. The construction of transit accommodations at Vessu, Sheikhpora, Mattan and other places are personally being supervised and monitored by the Minister himself.

Mr. Bhalla informed that there were about 4000 applications of KPs who had expressed their willingness to return to their places of birth in the valley and steps were underway to ensure their rehabilitation in Kashmir.

Stating that both State and Central Governments were concerned about the welfare of the displaced people of the valley, the Minister said the UPA chairperson Mrs. Sonia Gandhi and the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh were equally monitoring several aspects of this community.

Mr. Bhalla revealed that the Government has already approached the centre for giving another component of 3000 jobs to the youth of KP community with necessary relaxations of age and other factors. Besides, other component of PMs package including construction of houses, relief to agriculturalists and industrialists are also being taken with the Central Government for the benefit of the community, he said.

He said Government will come out with right and positive approach to settle the matter of over aged youth of the community.

In his address, Minister of State for Revenue Mr. Nasir Aslam Wani said that Government is committed to redress all the issues of the KPs, adding that all basic facilities to KPs are the priority of the Government. He said coalition Government led by Chief Minister Mr. Omar Abdullah is fully aware of KPs issues and is making all out efforts to mitigate on priority basis. President YAIKS R.K Bhat expressed the hope that Government will fulfill the commitment as youth have full faith in the leadership of Omar Abdullah, Mr Bhalla and Wani. JK Thinkers Forum led by Kuldeep Pandita & Comrade Mohan Lal also participated in 22 nd day long dharna.

KP Sabha chief, A.N. Sadhu, vice president H N Tickoo and AIKPC chief H N Jatu were among others present.
