Geelani under house arrest

Police has put Hurriyat hardliner and chairman of breakaway faction of Hurriyat Conference, Syed Ali Shah Geelani under house arrest fearing trouble as the separatist leader was going to lead the funeral prayers in absentia for Osama bin Laden at Batmaloo after the Friday prayers.

Reports said that a large posse of police personnel was stationed at Hyderpora residence of Geelani and he was asked to stay in. The police personnel told the Hurriyat hardliner that he is under house arrest and as such can't move out.

The police personnel laid a cordon around the house of Hurriyat hardliner and subjected everybody entering the house to questioning. Some of the police personnel could be seen posted at the main road leading towards the entrance of Hurriyat hardliner.

Geelani has asked the Imams across the Kashmir valley to offer funeral prayers in absentia for Bin Laden after the Friday prayers.
