KP youth launch hunger strike

To intensify their agitation the unemployed displaced Pandit youth under the banner of Youth All India Kashmiri Samaj (YAIKS) today launched the hunger strike at Press Club here against the delaying tactics adopted by the State Government in implementation of PM's employment package.

The protestors were demanding implementation of remaining components of package and Cabinet decision of August 19 last year regarding filling up of dereserved posts among the displaced Pandit youth who had already been in the list.

The hunger strike was led by R K Bhat, president YAIKS. The protestors took strong exception to the government's delay dallying tactics in implementation of package for displaced Pandit youth which has been announced in the year 2008 by Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh during his visit to the State.

They said during the last two decades the KP youth were totally ignored in employment by the state government which filled up over three lakh posts during this period. With this negligent attitude of the government the number of unemployed youth among the community swelled during this period and it became a cause of desperation among them as their families have already lost other source of income after the mass exodus of the community from Valley in 1989-90.

R K Bhat, while addressing reiterated his appeal to Chief Minister and Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation Minister seeking their personnel intervention in the matter and regarding implementation of Cabinet decision. `` We were given assurance time and again that 800 dereserved posts and 762 non joining posts will be filled up from the existing merit list but no head way has been made in this regard till date.

He also demanded that recruitment drive be launched on the remaining 3000 posts out of 6000 posts announced by Dr Singh for KP youth.

H N Jattu, president AIKPC, Sampat Parkash Trade Unionist, Sheela Handoo, Roshan Lal Raina, Manoj Handoo, Moti Lal, Princy Dhar, Anita and Sunil Dhar addressed the protestors.
