Radio Utsav in Jammu and Kashmir

Organized by Radio Kashmir Jammu as part of novel outreach program, the two-day 'Radio Utsav' concluded at the Seminar Hall, Government College for Women, here today.

The highlight of today's program was an objective review of the contribution of premier organization like Dogri Sanstha, Cultural Academy, Radio and Television in development of Dogri language and culture by leading Dogri writers, poets and littérateurs.

One of the issues raised was that despite Radio Kashmir Jammu being specifically mentioned as Dogri station in the Akashwani manual, the announcements from the Centre continue to be made in mixed languages instead of exclusively in Dogri only.

N D Jamwal informed that in 1948 when radio station started its broadcast for the first time from Jammu it was called as Radio Jammu and the station from across the border was called as Radio Tralkhad. He supported the general demand that the present nomenclature of the Radio Kashmir Jammu should be reverted to its original name that is Radio Jammu.

The presenters in the academic sessions included Prof Nilamber Dev Sharma on 'Dogri Bhasha De Sambardan De Swal, Dr Jatinder Udhampuri on 'Dogri Kavita De Vibhin Aayam Ajj De Sandarbha, Prof Veena Gupta on Dogri Gadya De Vikas Te Dogri Sanstha Di Bhumika' and Chhatarpal on 'Dogri Katha Sahitya: Radio/ Television Di Bhumika'. The first session was chaired and moderated by Prof Lalit Magotra and Mohan Singh respectively while the second session was chaired by N D Jamwal.

Yesterday, the first day of the Radio Utsav, which was exclusively devoted to the Hindi literature and poetry comprised of paper presentations and a poetic symposium. Those who presented papers on influence of migration upon creative writing, poetry, short stories and plays included Dr Rattan Lal Shant and Maharaj Krishan Santoshi while Kavi Rattan veteran theatrist talked about contemporary theatre and general public. The session was chaired by Prof Ved Kumari Ghai and moderated by Rita Jatinder.

Those who participated in the poetic symposium included Kshma Kaul, Nirmal Vinod, Chanchal Dogra, Hemant Kukreti, Sheikh Mohammad Kalyan, Dr Aruna Sharma, Dr Raj Kumar, Dr Usha Vyas and Pratima Sharma.

Marking the conclusion of 'Radio Utsav', the folk music recital, a high-class performance reiterating the professional standards of Radio Kashmir Jammu, highly impressed the audience. Those well known artistes who displayed their musical talent were Parduman Singh Jandraia, Krishna Kumari, Asha Kesar and Bishan Dass.

The vote of thanks was presented by Ravi Magotra, in-charge Programs, Radio Kashmir Jammu, while Madhavi Sharma, veteran broadcaster conducted the proceedings of the program.
