Admitting that work on the project has been affected due to certain reasons, Government today said that Mughal road will be completed by March 2013.
In response to a question of Leader of the Opposition, Mehbooba Mufti in the Lower House, Minister Incharge Public Works Department said, "the construction of Mughal road having length of 84 kilometers has not been delayed. However, the pace of work on the project has been affected due to certain reasons".
The reasons include increase in quantum of work after preparation of actual detailed project report, Amarnath land row in 2008, Shopian episode during 2009 and unrest in Kashmir valley in 2010.
"The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has fixed March 2013 as date of completion of road in all respects", the Minister said, adding "the project is expected to be completed/ commissioned within stipulated time".
He said that road stands substantially completed with 87 per cent of the road length already macadamized. "In fact, the road is already operational for light motor vehicles since October 2010", he added.
Out of approved cost of ` 639.85 crore, an amount of ` 511.762 crore has been expended on the project till date.
