Govt lacks vision to get rid of chaos on Janipur road
Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Ali Mohd Sagar and two Judges had taste of the traffic jam on Ambphalla-Janipur road this morning when there was acute chaos and confusion for around three hours.
Though traffic jamming on Ambphalla-Janipur road has become a routine due to varied reasons yet situation turned worst during the peak hours this morning mainly due to non-adherence to the lane driving by the mini-bus operators. The wrong parking in front of the shops and other business establishments made the situation more chaotic as a result of which there was traffic jamming for around three hours.
Unlike routine practice, the vehicle of Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Ali Mohd Sagar too got struck up in jam despite numerous attempts by the flag vehicle moving ahead of his Safari. The repeated blowing of siren by the driver of flag vehicle failed to yield any result.
After remaining caught in the traffic jam for sometime, Traffic Police got the vehicle of Minister diverted towards Tali Morh so that he could reach his destination in time. Two Judges were also found caught in the traffic jam as their vehicles could not find safe passage to reach their destination.
Though managing traffic on this busiest road is mainly the responsibility of cops in blue uniform yet other Government agencies cannot be absolved themselves of being equally responsible as they too have a role to play in ensuring smooth traffic on Ambphalla-Janipur road. One of such agency is Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), which despite being responsible for checking encroachments on the foot-paths, is rarely seen enforcing the law so that pedestrians can make use of the footpaths instead of main road.
"It is really surprising that despite being aware of the problem of traffic chaos on Ambphalla-Janipur road, the State Government has not chalked out any plan to get rid of the same", people said, adding "for the past so many years we have been hearing that Government is planning to provide alternate road connectivity to the High Court complex but nothing is visible on ground".
"Alternate road connectivity is the only option before the Government as widening of this road involved huge compensation", official sources said, adding "though a plan was mooted several years back to provide alternate road connectivity to High Court via Manda yet no step has so far been initiated to give a practical shape to the same".
People, who have been facing traffic jams almost every day, said that judiciary should intervene and pass necessary directions to the Government so that either this plan gets through or alternate measures are taken to provide succour from chaotic condition on the Ambphalla-Janipur road.
