Minister for Higher Education, Abdul Gani Malik today said that science is an inspiration and a way of life for the youth as their restless minds urge for seeking scientific education, research and results.
He said that it is need of hour that both Central and State Governments accord highest priority to science by way of providing resources, science teachers and world class research institutions at State as well as national level, adding the scientific magnanimity radiating from experienced scientists throughout the country will inspire the youth to take up science as a life time mission.
The Minister was addressing an impressive function organized by GGM Science College after inauguration of 2-day national symposium on 'Interdisciplinary Science' sponsored by UGC.
Wishing success to the participants and organizers, the Minister said "we all should strive for promoting science and technology in the State for societal development as well as its transformation into the technological era."
Commissioner/Secretary Higher Education Tanveer Jehan while addressing the function impressed upon the students and scholars to continue their scientific pursuits till they achieve their goal of success and prosperity.
Emphasizing upon providing proper counseling facilities to the budding students, she underlined the need for setting up of special counseling centres for bringing about awareness about the science and its significance.
She hoped that the symposium will go a long way in creating scientific temperament among students and scholars of different fields.
Director Colleges Dr. Muqbil Chisti was also present on the occasion.
Earlier, Principal of the College Dr. Satinder Singh gave a resume of objectives of organizing the symposium.
Director, IIM, Dr. Ram Vishvkarma presided over the inaugural session. Prof. R. P. Tandan of Delhi University delivered plenary talk on "Dawn of Nano Era".
Besides, Convener of the symposium Dr. S. P. Saraswat presented brief introduction of the symposium.
The Minister released Abstract book of the seminar and Bi-annual Newsletter ICH-DIEN of the College on the occasion.
Around 350 scientists, teachers, research scholars from Colleges and Universities and experts from various fields are participating in the symposium, besides eminent scientists will be the resource persons on the occasion.
Prof. P. N. Kotru, Department of Physics, Jammu University spoke over "Materials Engineering and Technology- A Fundamental view', while as Dr. Atul Khanna of GND University Amritsar delivered lecture on 'exploring the mysteries of oxide glasses' Dr. Gaurav Verma, Punjab University, Chandigarh addressed on 'An Insight into the S&T of Nanoscale Materials and Composites in first session of day-one.
Organizing Secretary Prof. Rakesh Gupta presented vote of thanks Staff Secretary Prof. D. S. Manhas also attended the function.
Head of Department, Computer Science, Dr. Madhu Gupta, Principal, GDC, Paloura Dr. Hemla Aggarwal, Principal, GDC, Parade, Dr. Kiran Bakshi, President CTA, Dr. Avinash Gupta, Dr. Satish Bhan and Dr. Gandotra were also present on the occasion.
