Vishaw Hindu Parishad (VHP) has strongly opposed the reduction of Amarnath Yatra duration from two months to 39 days.
The VHP and other Hindu bodies will not tolerate the reduction of yatra duration at any cost, its international working president, Parveen Togadia told reporters here today.
He accused the Central Government and Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) for succumbing to the heinous agenda of the terrorist organizations by reducing the period of yatra to 39 days and announced that the yatra will commence on Jesht Purnima and will culminate after two months on Sawan Purnima.
Togadia said that terrorists have an agenda to eliminate the Hindus from Kashmir Valley completely but they will not be allowed to succeed in their nefarious designs. To achieve their agenda the terrorists have always tried to stop the Hindus form coming to Valley and made the Amarnath yatra their target various times in past. But the fear of death can not stop the yatris from visiting the holy shrine and their number increased day by day, he added.
Dr Togadia said now it seems that terrorists have succeeded in pressurizing the Government and the Board to stop this yatra by continuously reducing the yatra duration every year.
The Board and the Government seems playing in tune with the terrorists and are thus drastically reducing the yatra period every year.
Dr Togadia further said that duration of yatra was 60 days upto 2009 and the terrorists had earlier warned the Government to limit the yatra duration upto one month. It was only after this threat that the yatra was reduced to 55 days in 2010, he added.
He said when the Hindu society made a strong protest the Board assured that the yatra would be of 60 days in 2011. But surprisingly it was reduced to 45 days without making any consultation with the representatives of Hindu society. Though Hindu society raised a protest it was again assured that the yatra would be 60 days and an announcement was made by Sri Sri Ravi Shanker Ji Maharaj in this regard. But now the Government has now again reduced the yatra duration to 39 days.
He said the VHP has rejected this decision completely and it will start the yatra on its own on Jeshtpurnima. Besides, VHP will launch nation-wide protest all over country in front of JK Tourism offices, he added.
